I dedicate this book to the two brothers whom this story is based off of.

"Grizz, breakfast! Come and get it!” shouted a voice that could only belong to young Nick. Grizz, the energetic, brown labrador raced out of his wooden, red dog house, for he never missed a meal of his favorite dog food, Kibble Krunch.

Grizz eagerly devoured his food, and trotted his way inside his owner's house. Just like she did everyday, Nick’s mom snapped a leash onto Grizz’s leather collar, and took him outside for their usual stroll to the dog park.

When the familiar sight of a mixture of dog breeds became prominent , Grizz's paws pounded the grass with the purpose to find Trixie, an old, wise golden retriever that had known Grizz ever since he was a puppy.

“Hi Trixie, how’s it going?” Grizz asked.
“It is going fine Grizz, and may I assume that you are doing just wonderful on this beautiful day?” Trixie yawned.
“Oh, you betcha! Life is so great. I got myself a family who loves and plays with me, Kibble Krunch to munch on, and a cozy, fluffy bed to nap on inside my dog house!” Grizz remarked.

When the front door would burst open, Grizz would jump up and bark in excitement for his master's arrival. The two would sprint out into the yard and play fetch up until dinner. Throughout dinner, Nick would secretly sneak morsels of his vegetables under the table for Grizz to gobble up.

“So, the pound called to tell us that our other dog came in and will be ready for pick up after dinner,” Nick’s father said.
“Wait, so it is really happening! We’re getting another dog!” Nick squealed with delight. Grizz got up and joined in on his owner’s gleefulness. Another dog would be joining their family. Grizz would have someone to play with, walk with, and sleep with. He couldn’t wait.

The next time Nick walked through the front door, he wasn’t alone. In his arms was a squirming, brown and white spotted little dog. Grizz jumped up with joy, unable to contain the excitement about all the activities that he would be able to do with his new brother.
“Grizz! Get down!” Nick exclaimed playfully, “Meet your new brother, Spike.”

The next day, Grizz arose from his doghouse all sore, for he had to spend the night on the rocky, tough dirt. His wonderful dog bed was brought inside for the new dog to sleep on. Grizz was determined to not let this ruin his day, because it just had to get better from here.

Grizz waited, and waited, and waited some more. Nick never came to the door to give Grizz his breakfast. Out front, Grizz’s ears picked up Nick’s feet running towards the bus stop. This was unbelievable! Nick forgot to feed Grizz. Inside, Spike munched happily away on his breakfast, Kibble Krunch. Grizz’s stomach rumbled as he made himself as comfortable as can be in the grass. Surely the day had to get better.
