Democritus
He was born in Abdera, Greece in 460 BC. He learned
about the atomic theory from Leucippus(the founder of the
atomic theory). Democritus discovered that atoms are
infinite in number, they can join together to create objects
and the objects can be destroyed when atoms separate, and
atoms are the minimal quantity of matter.

Robert Boyle
He was born in Ireland on January 25, 1627. Boyle is
known as the "Father of Modern Chemistry". He was
involved in many fields of science, philosophy, and theology.
He often discussed the topic about elements.

Antoine Lavoiser
He was born in Paris on August 26, 1743. He attended
College des Quatre Nations. Lavoiser was a chemist,
economist, and a public servant. He changed chemistry from a
qualitative to a quantitative science.

John Dalton
He was born in 1766. Dalton was an English chemist with a Quaker
background. He was a pioneer meteorologist, and he worked on the atomic
theory.

Dmitri Mendeleev
Mendeleev was born in Siberia in the year 1834. His father
died when Dmitri was still in high school, and his mother
worked very hard to get him into college. He changed the
understanding of properties of atoms; created the periodic
table of elements.

Eugen Goldstein
Eugen was born in Gliwice, Poland on September 5, 1850.
Goldstein was a physicist and he discovered amode rays.

J.J. Thomson
J.J. was born in Manchester on December 18, 1856. He
attended Owens College, Manchester and Trinity College,
Cambridge. Thomson discovered the method of separating
atoms and molecules along with discovering electrons.

Max Planck
He was born in Kiel, Germany on April 23, 1858. Planck
studied at the Universities of Munich and Berlin. He received
his doctorate of philosophy at Munich in 1879. Planck worked
on the quantum theory and discovered that energy is not
continuous.

Robert Millikan
Millikan was born in Morrison, Illinois on March 22,1868. He
was appointed Fellow in Physics at Columbia University.
Millikan discovered the charge of electrons.
