Matter comes in 5 states. But only 4 are most important.Those are liquid,solids,gas,and plasma.

Walls and blocks and socks are SOLIDS.Milk and lemonade and water are LIQUIDS.The air you breathe is a GAS.Lightning and the sun are PLASMA.

Some solids are hard and some are soft.But all solids hold their shape unless you do something to change them.A wooden block is hard you can push it and pull it and squeeze .If you bang a hammer on it. its going to break.But the broken pieces will hold thier shape. The molecules are tight.They only vibrate.

Liquids have no shape. You pour a cup of kool-aid for your little brother,and the kool-aid takes on the shape of the cup. If he knocks it over ,the kool-aid spreads out on the table.It flows over the edge like a waterfall. kool-aid is not round or square it has shape at all.The molecules are all over the place.They move very quickly.
