Dedicated to all those who have come to America through Elis Island.

It was a bright and sunny day in England. For most people today was just a normal day. But for my family this wasn't just an ordinary day. Today was the day my family goes to America. While we waited online my body began to fill with excitement.

The boat started to get crowded so that gave me the idea that we ware going to be leaving soon. The boat was filled with people of all kinds. I wasn't looking forward to 6-14 weeks on a ship with illness and dirty people. At least I had my family.

The boat finally started to move, a lot of the people got sick, and there were people throwing up and shaking. This reminded me of when we went on a boat 2 years ago. Ma's eyes got all puffy and swollen, she claimed that it was just her allergies acting up again. We were considering getting off at an island for a doctor. Ma told me that she has always had really bad allergies because of the salty air.

After a extremely long and miserable, 12 weeks on the boat, my family and I arrived at Ellis Island. I couldn't wait to become an official American citizen. Once we docked we made our way to the inspection center.

We went through the medical and physical examination I didn't have a worry in the world, my father and I were flying through all the tests as good as ever. We were completely healthy and we were full of joy to at last, become American citizens.
My father and I passed through all the tests and then we realized that we didn't see my mother. I started to panic. A million thoughts went through my head, what if she cant come to America with us?!
My father walked up to one of the workers and said, "Hello sir, my wife is missing, can you see if she is still in inspection?" The worker said that he would find out as soon as he could, then he walked up to one of his co-workers and they talked for a few minutes before coming back over.
"Your wife failed the button hook eye test, she has a disease called tracheotomy." I saw the shock and fear in my fathers eyes as the words left his mouth. "She will be further inspected and then the doctors will decide if she will be sent back home or not." Tears streamed down my fathers face, my eyes started to water. "This can't be happening," I thought. What was supposed to be one of the best days of my life, took a turn for the worst.

"Dad, are we going tom see ma again?" I asked with my eyes full of tears. "I hope so," said my father with a shaky voice.
My father asked the man if we were aloud to see ma, he said diseased patients were off limits to other immigrants, he said to check back tomorrow for any new information.
