Chunky, the caterpillar, was sitting on a leaf.
He watched a robin fly from branch to branch. He wished he could fly as fast as he did. He saw a dragonfly whiz past him. He wanted he could move as quickly as him. Then he saw a beautiful butterfly and landed so gently on the flower. Wow!
He wished he could fly like that too. Chunky looked down at his body. He didn’t like his body. He wanted his wing and still be a caterpillar.
He could only crawl an inch at a time to get from one place to the other. He hated his slow walk, and he wished he were someone else that could go fast and run and play like his friends.
He decided to go to the tree fairy to ask for help. “And what do you want me to do for you?” the tree fairy asked him. “I want to have wings so I can get around much faster than I can walk now," Chunky said. “Are you sure this is what you want? “Chunky nodded his head. “Don’t you want? To wait a little longer?” she asked. Chunky said no, all he wanted were wings and that he wanted them now.
He did not want to be slow any longer. He dreamed of becoming a big long handsome caterpillar. He thought of himself as short and very slow he did not like the way he looked.
He saw a different image when he looked at himself in the mirror, but chunky did not realize he was this handsome, strong caterpillar. He just could not see it in himself. He wanted so much to be like the other caterpillar and have beautiful wings fast, and could not wait for them.

The tree fairy gave him wings and told him that the next day he would wake up with two wings as he wished. Chunky was excited. He could hardly sleep that night. He was so anxious and nervous. He went to bed dreaming, of his new wings.
He went to bed, dreaming of his new wings. Tomorrow, he was going to be different. The next morning he woke up and found out that he had two wings. He flapped them happily and began to try them out. He was still a caterpillar but no butterfly. First, he flew from one branch to the other. His body was so heavy with his wings he nearly fell out of the tree. Next, he tried to zip by like a dragonfly. He bumped into a tree and almost hurt himself.
