Dedicated to my family

Hi, my name is Sue. I'm going to teach you about the three types of heat transfer.

conduction

Convection
Radiation

Conduction: This is the transfer of heat by direct touch. In the picture I am holding a hot skillet so the heat is being transferred to my hand.
Convection: This is the transfer of heat between liquid or a gas. My son breathing heavily in and out causes convection because he is breathing out hot air which is heating up the cold air.
Radiation: This is the transfer of heat that is given off by many things. My microwave gives off electromagnetic waves called microwaves. This is used to heat up food.
Albedo is the proportion of the incident light or radiation that is reflected by a surface, typically that of a planet or moon.
Clouds: They absorb a lot of albedo because they are lighter colors.
Land: The land absorbs a lot of albedo because all of the plants and animals and living things absorb albedo.
Sea Ice: Since sea ice is lighter colors it reflects a lot of the albedo that the Sun is giving off.
Open Waters: Open waters absorb a lot of the albedo that is given off from the Sun.

The brown dog absorbs more heat than the yellow dog because darker colors don't reflect light as well as the lighter colors do.
Mountains are cooler on the top than they are at the bottom even though heat rises because they are at such a high elevation that hot air cant travel that high and the top of the Troposphere is very cold.
Valleys are always warmer because when the hot air falls down to cool it gets trapped in the valley and it can't get out. The temperatures in a valley are different at every part of that valley.
Deserts are very rich in albedo. Since the ground and most of the animal life in a desert is darker almost everything in the desert relies on the Sun to keep it warm.
