Dust Bowl n. the region, including Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico, that was made worthless for farming by drought and dust storms during the 1930's.

My name is Lilly and I'm 32 years old. My husband is Brandon and I married with Brandon 4 years ago. We live in Beaver, Oklahoma and we are a farmer.

At once night, I was awoken from a nightmare because I saw my house and the area around my house had a lot of the dust and I saw a big storm coming.

Then the next day in the morning, I was still thinking about it because it was seem so real and I told Brandon about that. He said everything is going to be okay I just had a nightmare.
After that in the summer of 1931, I had no idea why the rains disappeared. Crops withered and died. And there had always been a strong winds and dust on the plains.

And the next day, I woke up in the morning and I saw the dust everywhere such as, in food, in water and in the lungs of animals and people.

Brandon and I tried to protect ourselves from the dust by hanging wet sheets in front of doorways and windows to filter the dirt. And we also kept plowing, kept sowing wheat, and kept waiting for rain.
Then by 1934, Brandon woke me up in the early morning because the storm were coming with alarming frequency and he saw the powerful storm that he hasn't seen before. And that was reminded me of my nightmare dream.

The dust was beginning to make the people sick especially my neighbor and our animals were dead in the fields too.

By the end of 1935, with no substantial rainfall in 4 years. Brandon and I were decided to search of farm jobs in California.

The reasons that we decided to find a farm jobs in California was the state's mild climate allowed for a long growing season and a diversity of crops with staggered planting and harvesting cycles.
But sadly, our dream can not come true because we discovered that a good portion of California farmlands were owned by large, corporate farms that cultivated different crops and were far more modernized than the smaller farms of the Great Plains.
And there were often fewer jobs available than had been advertised and desperate workers weren't in a position to refuse the poor pay and living conditions offered by the corporate farms.
We were stayed in California for 6 months and finally, federal help was given to the migrants.
