Plants are central to life on Earth. They create food for animals to eat. They produce oxygen that is in the air we breathe. So, plants are important to humans and animals.

Plants are composed of four parts: flowers, stem, leaf and roots. Each part of the plant has a very specific job.

Plants need roots to survive. The roots are like the heart of the plant. The roots absorb water and nutrients from the soil and transport them to the stem. They also hold the plant into the ground.

The stem transports water between the roots and leaves. It keeps the leaves in the light. It support the leaves and the flower.
The leaves are the like the restaurant. This is where the food is made. Leaves use chlorophyll to trap energy from the sun to make the plant's food or glucose. The leaves at the top of the page are beautiful.
The flower is the reproductive part of the plant. It also holds the seeds until they blow away and new plants grow.
