The Aral Sea Crisis is a great example of the relationship between lakes and rivers.
Human activities can impact the size and water-quality of lakes. Also, human activities can have negative effects on environments, social, economic, and health.
During the Cold War the Soviet Union increased the Cotton and Rice farming activities.
The water from lakes like the Aral Sea were used for irrigation activities. After 40 years the overuse and the salination level of the Aral Sea cause the reduction and a dry zone process on the lake.

Once the fourth-biggest lake in the world, the eastern basin of the Aral Sea in central Asia is now completely dry.
