School Observation
The particular type(s) of special needs learner(s) you observed and/or worked with
There were a few students with special needs in the 2nd grade class that I observed. There was one child that needed help with math and focusing on his school work as he easily got off topic and was easily distracted. The other student had a physical disability and he had a special teacher that was with him at all hours of the day, helping him out with his school work.
The related teaching and learning setting
The teaching and learning setting in the classroom accommodated with every child's needs. The classroom was organized to insure that the students knew where everything went and could easily find what they were looking for. The teacher was mindful of every child's needs and taught in a way that everyone could understand. The two special education students also had helpers that would come in and help them with their work, periodically.
The effectiveness of the teaching strategies used with the special needs learner(s).
Each student is different, and they each have different needs. The two special education students that were in my 2nd grade class were very different. One student had to constantly be brought back to focus while the other really just needed attention and to feel as though he was included in the class activities and discussions. The teaching strategies used for each of these students were very effective in that each of their needs were met.
