In the land of Babylon in the year 500BC lived a Jewish man named Daniel.Daniel was 80 years old having being taken from his land of Jerusalem as a teenager.
Daniel served King Darius and they had become good friends.Over time King Darius promoted him to a postion above the other governors which created problems.
After a while the other govenors grew jealous of Darius and Daniels relationship and devised a plan to bring him down.
Once they had agreed on a plan they went to King Darius and propsed a law whereby the people could only pray to him for a month and no other God or idol. Darrius had no choice and reluctantly agreed.
"Whosoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for 30 days shall be cast into the lions den".(chapter 6 verse 7)
Daniel believed in one God only and refused to worship anyother person or idol. He continued his daily prayer facing towards his former land of Jerusalem.
As Daniel was praying the govenors found him and reported him to the King immediately. The king had no choice but to uphold the law and send him into the lions den.
