"Oi! Hello from Brazil.” In Brazil, when you meet someone new for the first time, they will give you kiss on the cheek. This is their way of saying, “nice to meet you.” The largest meal of day in Brazil is lunch, where they enjoy spending time with their family. Their main pastime is futebol, which is not American football. In Brazil, futebol is what we would call soccer!

Dear Mom and Dad,
I am writing you this postcard from Rio, Brazil! It is so beautiful here. The weather is warm and the people are so NICE! When I first arrived here, people greeted me with a kiss on a cheek! In Brazil’s culture, that is how people politely greet one another. I've already made new friends. Here in Brazil, lunch is their main meal of the day; it is like our supper. I don't think I've ever ate that much! After dinner, we went and played futebol, not football. Futebol here, is our soccer!. We are going to see the mountains and ocean now. I will see you soon!

Short Story:
In Brazil, there is a lullaby that parents sing to their children that is called the "Tutu Maramba". The Tutu Maramba is a scary night monster that comes out when the family is sleeping. Because of this lullaby being such an important piece to the Brazilian culture, this short story illustrates some of the legends surrounding the monster.
Short Story: Listen
Tonight, will be a night I will never forget...
It started off like any normal Wednesday. My family came home and we started to cook supper. Mama always warned me to put up the left overs because it would attract the monster. I never do it because the monster has never came to my house before. Well, every night before I go to sleep, Mama tells me the lullaby about the Tutu Maramba, “Get off the roof, you hungry beast. And leave the boy to sleep in peace.” She says it will scare away the Tutu Maramba if we say the lullaby each night. Well, tonight was different, I could feel it in my bones. All I could think about was all that food that I left out on the table. I left it there as if it was an invitation for the Tutu Maramba to come into our home.

Short Story: Listen
I tossed and turned until I finally decided to get up and put the food away. As I got up, I could feel the butterflies in my stomach and a big lump in my throat. I quietly and quickly walked down the hall towards the kitchen and there it stood, the Tutu Maramba. It was enormous! It had a long, bulky body, with hair all over, and huge teeth that looked like swords. All I could think to do was stand completely still and think about what mom would say “Well, I told you so.” This beast was staring at me with such intensity, I began to scream f“leave the boy in peace, leave the boy in peace.”

Short Story: Listen
The beast began to run after me! I was running and sweating profusely. I looked behind me and he was gone. I wiped off my forehead with my sleeve and thought to myself “wow that was a close one.” As I turned back around, there he was, right in front of me! Scared and frightened, I screamed “leave the boy in peace, leave the boy in peace!” At that exact moment, I felt something gentle, grab me tightly and say, “calm down, calm down, it was just a dream.” It was my Mama! It was just a dream. I couldn’t have been more relieved. I knew from that point on, I would always put the food away like Mama asked.
Poem:
In Brazil’s culture, family and nature are very important. There is a traditional story that gets passed down from generation to generation that incorporates family and nature. The story is called The Princess of the Springs. In this story, all the characters were named after the nature that surrounds them. The Princess of the Springs couldn't find her mother and son in the story. She does anything she can to get their family back together because of the love she has for them. This story shows the importance of family in the Brazilian culture. Therefore, the influence of nature and family can be seen in the following poem.

Poem: Never Lost with Hope
Heart so pure
Strong for sure
Beautiful enough
To be a princess
Her eyes shine bright
Like the late night light
Sparkling off of
The lakes and rivers
Love so strong
To do whats wrong
In hopes to find
Her loving mother
Tears meet the ground
Flooding all around
Darkness deepens as heart breaks
Poem: Never Lost with Hope
To know her son has been misplaced
Never giving up
She takes a look up
As if she was dreaming
To see her poor boy weeping
Soring high
Into the sky
Up in the clouds
Her boy she finds
Wipe those tears
Clean those smears
For never giving up
Will lead you to sheer happiness

A Little about Brazil
Brazil is such a beautiful and intriguing country. The weather varies depending on what part of the country you are in. For example in the north, it is always wet and hot; in the south, they have four seasons like we do- fall, winter, spring, and summer. Sometimes it even snows! Brazil's culture is very different than America's culture. When they meet someone for the first time, they kiss each other on the cheek, besides shaking their hands. This is the appropriate way of greeting one another. It is very easy to make friends there. In Brazil's culture, loved ones means everything to them. They eat lunch together daily and talk about what is going on in their lives. Lunch is their biggest meal of the day, everything is made from scratch. Also in Brazil's culture, they play lots of futebol. Futebol is Brazil's favorite sport, which is soccer.
