One day when dionysus was going to thebes he got captured by pirates ,but no one could capture him because he was a god they tried to tie him up but did not succeed the rope was falling apart every time they tried.

The helmsman realized that only a god could do something like this and set him free. When they tried to leave they saw that there was vines growing around their ship

Dionysus turned into a lion and chased the crew members off the boat and turned them into lions only the helmsman was spared and he fled to the sea
