Did you know that there are several different types of clouds? Well there are. Today I am going to tell you about six of them and how to identify them. The first one is cumulus they are low level clouds and they are puffy clouds. Then, stratus they are also low level clouds and they cover the whole sky. Cirrus are high level clouds and they are transparent. Nimbostratus are just darker and thicker stratus clouds. Cumulonimbus is a huge cumulus cloud that builds up. And finally, a fog is a kind of see through cloud on the ground.

The first cloud is cumulus. A cumulus cloud is a low level cloud that you can probably touch if you stand on top of a house. They are also puffy clouds. They are kind of like a cotton ball. They do not cover the whole sky and the word “cumulus” means pile. If you see any of these clouds with these clues be sure that it is cumulus.

The second cloud is stratus. A stratus cloud is also a low level cloud. It is the same height as a cumulus cloud. The word “stratus” means layer. This cloud covers the whole sky like a big blanket. These clouds are thin clouds that stretch. So if you see any of these clouds with these clues be sure that it is stratus.

The third cloud is cirrus. Cirrus clouds are very high up in the sky, which means you would probably reach them if you were traveling in an airplane. The word “cirrus” means curl. A cirrus cloud covers the whole sky or it could be a bunch of individual curls in the sky. Cirrus clouds are transparent, or see through clouds. So if you see any of these clouds with these clues be sure that it is cirrus.
