Hi, my name is spongebob!

And my name is Gary!

Hey Gary! Why is your crust so thin?

Ocean Acidification

Ocean what?

The ocean absorbs Carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and this lowers its PH

So why is that bad for you?

Basically when there's more CO2 in the ocean, it lowers the amount of calcium carbonate...the thing that makes my shell strong!

Oh! So your saying that a lot of CO2 in the ocean makes it more acidic and destroys your shell!

Exactly! It makes it hard for gastropods like me to have fun

So if CO2 is so bad how do we get rid of it??

Simple things such as driving less and recycling more will lower the amount of Co2 and greenhouse gases

Wow thanks Gary!

Anytime! Always glad to help out a friend!
VOCAB:
Ocean Acidification: How the ocean has become more acidic due to the increased amount of carbon dioxide.
Recycling: converting waste into reusable material.
Gastropod: A fancy way of saying snail or slug.
PH: Used to measure acidity(low PH means more acidic).
Calcium Carbonate: A chemical compound that is the makeup of sea creatures shells.
Absorbs: To soak in or take up( The ocean absorbs CO2)/
Atmosphere: The group of gases surrounding earth
Acidic: A molecule that has a PH of less than 7(ex: Vinegar, Lemons).
Greenhouse Gases: Gases that can trap heat.
CO2: A colorless gas that we breath out..can be bad in excess.
