Hi, my name is Samantha, and I am going to tell you the story of the court case Wilchcombe v. United States.

Mario Wilchcombe, Nathaniel Rolle, and Alteme Beauplant agreed to use Rolle’s small fishing boat located in Haiti to take drugs from Haiti to the Bahamas.

A few hours after the boat left, a coast guard got a tip that a boat had left Haiti with drugs.
They found the boat and ordered them to stop, instead, the boat sped up. They chased the boat and saw Rolle and other men throwing stuff into the water.

Rolle stopped the boat and Lieutenant Nichols radioed Rolle’s information to the cutter. He then requested the Bahamian Government to allow them to board rolle’s boat.

The men were taken into custody, the boat was searched, and then they sank it. Other officers recovered cocaine and marijuana which was thrown overboard.

The men were put in leg irons and not read their miranda rights. They were thought to have violated the Maritime Drug Law enforcement act. Not stopping, rolle was the master, operator, and person in charge, which is in violation of 18 U.S.C. §2237(a)(1).
