Sam loved to draw.

Sam loved to draw everything - birds, people, buildings but with a spin!

He drew things in his own special way.

Sam’s parents loved his drawings,

and his drawings decorated

the fridge.

One day during art class, Ms. Lim announced, “We will have an art competition and your theme

is Singapore!”

Sam was excited, and he shared the news with his parents that night.  

“That sounds like fun Sam! How about we drive around town so you can get inspired?” His mother asked.

The next day, on their road trip Sam saw many things. He saw Supertrees, looming cranes, the  spiky Esplanade, and Marina Bay Sands.

That evening, he began to draw.

He drew a huge boat on top of one, two, three dominoes.

Next, he drew many dinosaurs, four, five and six!

Then Sam drew three giant light sabers. And last of all, Sam drew a delicious giant donut!

Sam was excited to go to school and show his drawings the next day. With a spring in his steps, he got out of bed and hurried to school.

“Hey everyone! Do you want to see my drawing?” Asked Sam eagerly.

They nodded their heads, but when Sam pulled out his drawing everyone burst out laughing and pointed at his work in disgust!

“Silly Sam, you call that art? Dinosaurs are extinct and durians are not that huge.” One of his classmates pointed out.

“Yeah Sam, you might as well not hand in your work for the art competition! You’re never going to win,” another one added.

Sam felt extremely sad. Were his drawings really that bad?
