Take a deep breath. Most of what you just inhaled is nitrogen! Like all living things, Your body needs nitrogen just like mine does too! We are gonna take a trip through the nitrogen cycle.

Did you know it can convert nitrogen into nitrates that organisms can use. Like Me!

Most plants get the nitrogen they need from soil. Many farmers use fertilizers to add nitrogen to the soil to help plants grow larger and faster. Both nitrogen fertilizers and forest fires add huge amounts of nitrogen into the soil and nearby lakes and rivers.

Nitrogenous compounds from dead organisms or wastes are converted into ammonia by bacteria, and the ammonia is converted into nitrites and nitrates. Wow isn't that interesting!

Humans affect the nitrogen cycle in four impacting ways:

Nitrogen Fertilizer

Deforestation

Fossil Fuels Burning

Human Population Growth
