The synagogue is the Jewish place of worship, but is also used as a place to study, and often as a community centre as well. It is the weekly holy day, occurring on the seventh day of the week. Since the Jewish calendar determines that days being at sundown, the Sabbath is celebrated from Friday evening to the beginning of Saturday evening. The Sabbath is an important time of sanctification for the home.

The Torah is the first section of the first five books of the Jewish bible. However, Tanach is more commonly used to describe the whole of Jewish scriptures.

Judaism is practiced in most areas of the world, most notably Israel and the United States which hold the largest Jewish populations. While France has the largest European Jewish population, the United Kingdom also has a small but prominent Jewish population.

Judaism is one of the oldest monotheistic religions, teaching the belief in one God. Both Christianity and Islam have similarities with Judaism. These religions accept the belief in one God and the moral teachings of the Hebrew Bible, which includes the Torah.
