If I had to determine if I would rather be a patriot or a loyalist I would choose the patriots. Some of the reasons why I would pick the patriots are that they fought for their own cause, they had a vast leadership and they fought on their homeland.

The patriots fought for their own freedom because they wanted equal rights. Britain was making the patriots unexpectedly pay taxes which the colonists though was unfair. They thought their actions were unreasonable because the British didn’t tell the colonists that they were going to take the taxes and most colonists did not have a lot of money.

Because the majority of colonists, who were known as patriots, wanted independence they started fighting against Britain. Their battles quickly escalated in to a war which is now known as the American Revolution. Unlike the patriots, loyalists fought for their king while the patriots fought for their own rights.

The patriots’ leader was George Washington. He was a qualified and cleaver leader of the colonists. He helped his man get through tough battles and led them to safety. Washington also planed some attacks that took a major part in America gaining a self government.
