Once upon a time there was a little girl named Julie. She was ten years old and loved to draw and play soccer.

Julie had a brain that helped her to live her life. Each part of this brain had its own job that helped her to function, just like everyone in Julie's family had to do their own chore in order to keep the house clean and happy.

Julie's brain had two hemispheres, or halves. The right hemisphere controls the left side of her body. It was very creative and thought in pictures. Julie was left-handed, so the right side of her brain was dominant. This was why she loved art so much.

Julie's left hemisphere is more logical. This meant that it spent more time thinking than the right half. This half of the brain controlled the left side of Julie's body, and was much better at doing math than it was at drawing.

The Cerebral Cortex was the top part of Julie's brain. It was really wrinkly, which gave it a bigger area to store memories and other important information. Her Cerebral Cortex was divided into four parts, called lobes, in each hemisphere.

The first part is called the Frontal Lobe. It helps Julie to plan and control her feelings. The Frontal Lobe contains a part of the brain called the Motor Cortex, which helps Julie to move when she wants to. The Broca Area is also in this lobe, and helps Julie speak English.

The next part of the Cerebral Cortex is called the Temporal Lobe. It makes sense out of the sound that Julie hears through her ears. An area in this lobe, called Wernicke's Area, makes it so Julie can understand what other people say.

The third part of the Cerebral Cortex is the Parietal Lobe. This lobe makes sense of what Julie feels when she touches things, and lets her know where her arm is when she moves it.
