I dedicate this book to my friend Trinity, a spectacular dancer and an even better friend.

Have you ever been to Chicago? It's a big bustling city. But it wasn't always like that. Before Chicago was a city, Native Americans lived and thrived there.
The Native Americans called the city Checagou, meaning 'wild onion'. They called it this because the wild onion was the first plant to grow trough the harsh winter environment.

To survive, the Native Americans would hunt and fish for food. During the summer, they also grew vegetables. In the summer months, they also began to prepare for winter, for they knew there would be harsh weather and less food.

Also during the summer, all the families would come together and build a village. In the village, everyone helped one another.
