Brown V. Board Of Education was a landmark 1954 Supreme Court case in which the justices ruled unanimously that racial segregation of children in public schools was unconstitutional.
*Segregation means keeping blacks and whites separate.
The case was four class-action suits filed in four states by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on behalf of African American elementary and high school students who had been denied admission to all-white public schools.
One case, in Topeka, Kansas schools were segregated by race. Each day, Linda Brown and her sister had to walk through a dangerous railroad to get to the bus stop for the ride to their all-black elementary school. There was a school closer to the Brown's house, but it was only for white students.

Linda Brown and her family believed that the segregated school system violated the Fourteenth Amendment and took their case to court.
Thurgood Marshall, an attorney for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), argued the Brown's case.
