is for Alien and Sedition Acts

This act was passed in 1798 and it mostly targeted "(aliens) who weren't citizens. One of the acts was a waiting period were you had to wait 5-14 years just to become a U.S citizen. Others gave the president power to arrest immigrants who were disloyal /kick them out of the country during war time

is for Battle of Fallen Timbers

Washington sent troops to the Ohio Valley. Before any of this took place, the first federal army were defeated by Little Turtle in 1790. Now the chief and tribes are joined to defeat the federal army. After another defeat in 1791, Washington sent troops to another army west. This time, Anthony Wayne (Mad Anthony) was at it's head. But on August 20, 1794, around 2,000 Native Americans fought against Wayne's troop and won.

is for cabinet

A cabinet is a group of department head who are the president's adviser(s). Washington was the president, he chose a very intellectual cabinet . For Secretary of War, he chose Henry Knox, Secretary of state was Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of Treasury was Alexander Hamilton, and Attorney General was Edmund Randolph

is for Declaration of Independence

In 1798, Congress decided to adopt a resolution authorizing each of the 13 colonies to establish as it's own country. This document was called the Declaration of Independence. It mostly gave them the right to be free, independent states. Thomas Jefferson wrote most of it while the committee (Franklin, Adams, Sherman, and Livingston) all wrote bits and pieces.

is for Edmund Randolph

Edmund Randolph was an American attorney and politician. He was in Washington's cabinet as the first attorney General and his job was to advise government on legal matters.

is for Federalists (political party)

A lot of people misinterpreted the Constitution. so they decided to make political parties. One of them were called Federalists. This political party was led by Alexander Hamilton. Him and his supporters believed in loose construction of the Constitution, Favored the national bank, fear of mob rule (etc). Most of his supporters were lawyers, merchants, manufacturers and Farmers

is for Great Compromise

Before the Great Compromise took place, the government made two plans, the Virginia and New Jersey Plan. The Larger states/population favored the Virginia Plan while smaller states/population favored the New Jersey Plan. So they made the Great Compromise. They made it to where smaller states would have an equal number of votes in the senate and larger states set representation in the House of Burgesses according to state population. July 16, 1787, the convention passed.

is for House of Burgesses

The House of Burgesses became the first representative assembly in the american colonies. Since the governor had strict rules and also represented the Virginia company, people started to get irritated. The company realized that there needed to be more local control. Once a year elected representatives of the colonists would meet once a year in an assembly.

is for inaugurated

When George Washington was about to become the first president of the United States, Washington had to be inaugurated in New York City which was the nations capital. Inaugurated mean to be sworn or promise into something.

is for Jay's Treaty

IN 1792 , Britain started to seize the cargoes of American ships that were carrying goods. chief Justice John Jay got sent by Washington to talk to Britain about it. the U.S won the Battle of Fallen Timbers and the British were afraid of another entanglement so they agreed to leave by 1796. Britain would pay for the damages of the U.S vessels they seized. However, Jay's Treaty wasn't popular because he couldn't open up the profitable British West Indies Trade to Americans

is for King Philip's War

After the Europeans started to grow more in Population, more land was taken away from the Native Americans and they started to get angry. Europeans thought that land belonged to individuals while Native Americans thought it belonged to everyone. In 1675-1676 Puritan Colonies and Native Americans started to fight brutally. This became known as Philip's War

is for Lexington and Concord

Lexington and Concord was about the British and Americans battling. When this was happening, around 4 thousand minutemen and militiamen arrived at the bridge north of the town. While there were clouds of dust forming around them all, 1 thousand more troops saved the British from destruction and they headed back to Boston. It was the first battle of the Revolutionary War.

is for Mayflower Compact

King James attacked the Pilgrims for rejecting the England's official church so they escaped that harsh treatment by going to Holland. When they reached there, they asked the Virginia Company to settle in America. In 1620, the Mayflower was off to Cape cod in Massachusetts. When they finally arrived, they made the Mayflower Compact to obey the laws and agreed upon for the good of the colony. This helped establish an idea for self-government.

is for New Jersey Plan

The New Jersey plan was called for a legilature with only one house. William Paterson thought of this plan on June 15. in each state, the New Jersey Plan was kind of similar to the Articles of Confederation. each states would have one vote in the Legislature and the smaller states were half way happy.

is for overseer

On larger Southern plantations, there were about 20-25 slaves working under supervision called overseers. they were men hired by planter to see if they were doing their work. If they were doing something incorrectly or weren't doing anything at all, the overseers would whip them often

is for Pickney's Treaty

The U.S liked Pinckney's Treaty better than Jay's treaty. Pinckney's Treaty gave Americans the right to travel through the Mississippi River in 1795. They could also store their good in the port of New Orleans without paying anything. Plus Spain accepted the 31st parallel as the northern boundary of Florida and the southern boundary of the United States.
