Menstrual Phases
Phase 1: Menstrual Phase- 1-5 days and is the shedding of uterine lining when pregnancy has not occurred.
Phase 2: Post Menstrual Phase- Days 6-9 and the uterine lining is thick as the eggs begin to mature.
Phase 3: Ovulation- Days 10-14 and the matured egg break from the egg sac and leaves the ovary. The egg enter the fallopian tube. At the point at which the egg can be fertilized.
Phase 4: Premenstrual Phase- Days 15-28 and uterus continues to thicken. If not fertilized it disintegrates. The uterine lining sheds an the cycle will begin.

Fertilization/Conception
All babies begin with the fertilization of one egg by one sperm which is then called conception. This occurs in the fallopian tubes. The developing baby is referred to as a zygote and takes a 3-4 day journey from the fallopian tubes to the uterus. The zygote can float in the uterus for about 48 hours before planting and makes complex connection between the mother. The embryo then forms the placenta.

Birth Defects
Down Syndrome: Abnormal cell division in chromosome 21. This disorder creates wide ranges of developmental delays and physical disabilities.
Hemophilia: A blood disorder when blood doesn't clot properly. This disorder makes it harder to do activities that involve contact.
Huntington's Disease: This is a brain disorder where nerve cells becomes damaged. The ability to walk and talk decreases as well.

What to do and not to do During Pregnancy
No painting indoors: water-based indoor paints have chemicals that can emit fumes.
Prenatal Vitamins help during pregnancy: Help for a healthy baby.
No caffeine during pregnancy: caffeine while pregnant can be a factor of cancer and birth defects.
Hot baths: depending on how hot the water is should be the determination on whether it is safe or not.

Highlights of the 3 Trimesters
Trimester 1: morning sickness, frequent urination, fatigue, and breast enlargement.
Trimester 2: oily, dry, scaly, stretch marks, and facial skin may darken.
Trimester 3: abdomen enlarges, fatigue is common, baby moves a lot, and father starts to take more interest.
