Racism is a word most people recognise but don't want to. As much as we want to believe our world is decent it is a lie. The world is full of evil and hate. Our childhood belief that the world is fine is not true. And so that leaves us a choice: Ignore the facts and live in denial, or take the facts and make an effort to change them.
The History of Racism is a burn mark on the History of this World. Racism exists in many forms, and knows no bounds. There is no culture that does not experience Racism in some way. While Racism can take harsher forms against some cultures it is easy to ignore the types out there. But we must not overlook the treatment of any nation or culture. Most countries are all to ready to point finger at others regardless of if they share borders or not. All of the accounts of History are caused by someone assuming something about someone then generalizing the entire culture/nation/people into that box that they have created. The whole problem boils down to one of two things ignorance or generalizing one experience.
Racism against Africans Americans
One of the most recognizable forms of racism throughout history is against those of African descent. This started in the Renaissance and still exists today. This is most notably shown in the history of slavery in America. While this is most noticeable in America this racism still exists in other places around the world. The stereotypes of all Africans are poor is ridiculous, as is the idea that they will all rob you. We still let generations of hate follow us especially in this century.
Racism against Mexicans
This is a newer form of Racism compared to Racism against Africans. While most came here legally or were born hear they are generalized with small portion that came over illegally. They are treated as though all of our country's economic problems are their fault. This is completely unrealistic, as most Americans do not realize a whole section of our country has heavy Spanish influence because that land was there's first. We are the reason the immigrant problem even exists. Because of tightened border security more immigrants are here because we would not let them back if they left.
Racism against Asians
An old form of Racism, for centuries people have generalized all of the diverse Asian cultures. People even up to today do not realize the diversity of their cultures and practices. The attack on Pearl Harbor helped to fan the flames on this problem. As did push 3rd generation American citizens in Internment Camps. Even the idea that they are stealing our jobs is crazy, it was and still is the buisness man who are shipping the jobs overseas. And those who say they are uneducated do not understand the difference in the governments.
Racism towards Arabs
This is one of the most recent forms to gain a lot of strength. While Arabs were always treated differently because of their traditions, after the attack on the world trade center they were all generalized and still are to be terrorists. But we know that this is completely absurd, the entirety of the Arab population are not all Muslim. As well as very few Muslims agree with the harsh agenda of the extremists.
Racism Today
There are very few people right now that say racism does not take part in our society. And they can say that, but its a lie. Racism is very much alive and healthy right now. And yes it has changed since the 1930’s. We no longer have issues with slaves, or turing hoses on people. You don't have to worry about not being able to go to the movies because your color of skin isn’t allowed. You can go to a public pool now and learn to swim. You don’t have to worry about being yelled at and being called names for walking down the same street as a person of different skin tone. What you have to worry about is “if they will allow you on the plane because you look different.” Or if “you wear this colored shirt you are you going to be labeled with this group of people.”You have to worry about the fact that “if you speak a different language you might be thrown of of the country, because you came here illegally.” You would be correct if you say that “racism isn't as bad as it used to be”, because from my prospective it is a whole lot worse.
Blacks vs. Whites
If you were to ask anyone to give you an example of racism most people would say something about black and white people. And being a person of black lineage I of all people know this. But it's not the same as it was 50 years ago. Black people can use the same bathroom as a white, they can sit next to a white person in a restaurant, children can attend the same school as another white kid. But racism between whites and blacks gets way more personal these days. Now its not wanting to hire a black person because “you think they are going to rob your company”. Or not walking on the same side of the street as a black person because “ you're scared you are going to get mugged”. White kids no longer throw rocks at black kids walking home from school anymore. “ they now make small comments in class week after week that build up in a kids heart and slowly tear them down day after day, while other kids laugh about the comments being made. To be honest I would rather have a rock thrown at me than to be mentally torn apart day after day with no end in sight”. Sure blacks may be allowed in the same room as a white person today but they are nowhere close to being on the same level in some people's eyes.
Racism Towards Arabs
This is a pretty new form of racism. With most people blaming the start of it with 9/11. And to be honest I think it is one of the worst types of racism out there today. Today most people who see an Arab walking down the street can’t take their eyes off of them, because they think they are going to blow up a building. A few middle-Eastern men make some bad choices and the whole population is coming to America to blow up a twin set of buildings. When if you look at the facts “ most terrorist or actually white men not arabs.” But does anyone care about this, no. They would rather give people the stink eye if they try to get on a plane looking like you are from a different country. People don’t want to listen to the facts, they would rather listen to stories they have been told about something. They want to believe that “ all arabs take to the street and yell at the top of their lungs death to all americans”, because that makes more sense than the fact that some white people don't like America. It doesn't help that most terrorist in t.v, shows and films are people from the Middle-East with thick accents and AK’s in their bedrooms. Americans need to start looking into the facts instead of believing everything they see on t.v.
Racism Towards Mexicans
This type of racism has gotten really bad in the last few years and has created a fear in the eyes of Americans. If you have looked at the news lately or came out from under a rock you would know that Mr.Trump is the new president of the United States of America, and has been in office for almost a year now. Let me go on a rabbit hunt real quick. Most people's parents have told them that if you hang out with a bad influence, you will start to act like them. And with no offense what so ever to President Trump (he is the President he should be given respect no matter what) he is a terrible example for kids in the country. “Kids watching the news at night and hearing the leader of the country calling mexicans rapist. Then kids go to school and call a kid a rapist because he heard the president say it.” “Our for every Latino person you see you automatically assume they are an immigrant.” And before you go to the library to try and find a book to learn spanish so you can ask out this really cute girl in your class, heads up, “ not all Latinos only speak Spanish, most of them are fluent in English.” People should learn to respect and learn about others before they start to assume stuff about them.
Racism Towards Whites
For me this was the hardest type of racism to talk about, because growing up I always assumed that white people were the only ones that were racist. And know after researching this topic and a long argument with one of my closest friends I now know that statement was a lie. To be honest it took me a long time to come up with something racist against white people, but then it hit me. “White Privilege”, something I joke around with my friends about all the time, and have now learned that is just as offense as when a white person walks up to a black person and says “black lives matter.” People go around saying things that they think don't matter and they think people know that it is a joke. Trust me it doesn't come off as a joke. And the fact that people can say Black pride, or Asian Pride, or Hispanic Pride, “but when a white person says white pride and gets called racist for it”, there is something wrong with that. They should be able to show where they came from just as much as the next person. A majority of white people say that “discrimination against them exist in America today.” And in ways it is true, Tim Hershman says, “If you apply for a job, they seem to gives blacks the first crack at it.” This is true too. Business vand collages are trying to even out the amount of different races they have working are going to school there. Racism isn't just white people thinking they are better than every other person on the plant. It is different races not liking other races.
Summary
Racism has changed in the last 50 years. It has changed since last year. People no longer have a burning hatred for just black people. White people are know getting hit with some of the worse. What you have to worry about is if they will allow you on the plane because you look different. Or if you wear this colored shirt you are you going to be labeled with this group of people. You have to worry about the fact that if you speak a different language you might be thrown of of the country, because “you came here illegally.” People have changed and so has the ways that we view the world. Know it is our turn to change for the better.
