Dedicated to Coach Becky who taught us the importance of teamwork.

Once there was a girl named Jessica. She was very athletic and decided to play volleyball this high school season. Jessica was very confident in her volleyball skills.

Jessica played on a very good volleyball team. Her team was used to winning. The only goal Jessica had this season was to win. A trophy was everything to her.

She was not focused on her teammates and the way they treated each other. The way she acted was not how a good teammate would. She had more important things on her mind. Winning.

I only care about the trophy!

One day Jessica was in the gym practicing with her team. Jessica jumped to hit a ball and when she landed, she rolled her ankle.

OWWWW!

Oh no!
Jessica!

She saw her season flash before her eyes. Jessica was shocked. The whole time she had been focused on being number one and now she was left with nothing.

What am I going to do?

Her teammates gathered around her, and she was rushed to the trainer. She sat there quiet and disappointed. It had finally hit her, this whole time she had been focused on winning instead of on the relationship the team had created.

The trainer told her ankle was broken and the odds of her playing the rest of the season were very low. Jessica could not believe what he said. She realized all she could do was recover and see what would come from there.

I'm sorry Jessica...
The season passed by, and Jessica sat on the sidelines watching her team play. All she wanted to do was to be back on the court with her team.
