The Biography of Harriet Tubman

I, Harriet Tubman, was born in 1822 into slavery. I was one of eleven children. My childhood was harsh with almost no rest. My birth name was Araminta Harriet Ross, nick named minty by my parents.
Early life
My life was full of hardships. I suffered everyday through physical and mental strain. A lot of my family was sold to plantations far away. I had five lashes before breakfast and disobedience was not tolerated.

From a young age I knew I wanted freedom more than anything. I hated being controlled without any say, like I was less than they were. All because I looked a little different.
I worked at a very young age. I had to babysit my owners child. If the baby woke up my owner I knew horrors would be waiting so I had to make sure the baby never cried through the night.
I had a very large impact on the civil rights movement. I am known as the main conductor of my time.

When I escaped, I dedicated my life to help other slaves. I was a big part of the underground railroads.
The U.S passed the Fugitive law in 1850 that made having slaves illegal. After this is when I started helping in the underground railroad system.
I wanted to help all the others that have suffered from this and did everything I could. I also was trying to help family and their children.
