For Mrs. Overbey
and for an A+ grade :)

Alexander Hamilton was born in Charlestown in 1755. He had 1 brother, James Jr. As a child, he did not have it easy. His father abandoned him at a young age and his mother died 3 years later.
In the Revolutionary War, Hamilton was a great general. He also worked with other leaders like George Washington.
After the war, he was appointed by Washington as the first Secretary of Treasury and helped the government and was a good friend to Washington.
As a member of the government, he believed that the United States should have a strong national government and should be governed by the elite. This meant that the federal government would have lots of power. The power would be reserved for the rich.
Hamilton was a Federalist. A Federalist is someone who believes in a strong central government, very little state rights, wanted a national bank (not individual state banks), encouraged industry, and supported the Constitution. The Federalists were opposite of the Democratic-Republicans (anti-federalists or against the ratification of the constitution).
Hamilton liked Britain because he thought America depended on trade through Britain. Because of this, some Federalists were bashed by people who supported France instead. The Democratic-Republicans were the ones who liked France better because of how France helped them in the Revolutionary war AGAINST Britain. The Federalists disliked France because of the violent French Revolution.
