I dedicate this book to Anna DeMonte, who inspired this immigration story

My great great grandma, Anna DeMonte was just 15 when she immigrated from Italy to America in 1890. She hoped for a better life filled with new opportunities.

She grew up in a very poor family, and wanted nothing more than to find a job and raise a family in America.

Between the number of people at Ellis Island and traveling alone, it was a very scary experience. However, the thought of America and reuniting with her family who had immigrated a few years earlier motivated her enough to keep going.
