The citizens attempted to overthrow the government. They were not happy with the monarchy. At the end of the war they abolished the French Monarchy.
There meetings of the estates general, but for many years they didn't have any meetings because the 3rd estate couldn't get representatives in there. So they created The National Assembly which helped their votes win.
Now that they had the National Assembly they were afraid that the king would kick them out. Then they created the Tennis Court Oath. They met at a local indoor tennis court to pledge to never ever separate.
A mad mob now stormed Bastille. This was a prison. They were wanting to get in and get weapons and gun powder that they thought was inside. They let the prisoners out and killed some of the guards.
