ONCE UPON A TIME...

In the 1900's China was ready for a revolution to happen. They had been humiliated and taken advantage of for years by other countries. China wanted to be new and strong. It wanted a strong military, and defense. China was done with the embarrassment from other countries and wanted to be taken seriously.

Meet Sun Yixian, the first great leader of the Kuomintang Nationalist Party. In 1911 he overthrew the last Chinese emperor, of the Qing dynasty.

This is what I (Sun Yixian) actually looked like.

In 1912 a new Republic was established. In this republic Sun was the president.

I want to rule by the "Three Principles of the People." I will encourage nationalism, peoples rights, and livelihood. He said, “The Chinese people . . . do not have national spirit. Therefore even though we have four hundred million people gathered together in one China, in reality, they are just a heap of loose sand.”

Even though he meant well, Sun did not have the authority and military support to secure national unity for China.

Later on Sun handed over his presidency to Yuan Shikai, a strong general.
