he sent military advisers and equipment to the Nationalists in return for allowing the Chinese Communists to join the Kuomintang.

He wanted to ally with China

Sun Yixian died and Jiang Jieshi took over. Jiang had promised democracy and political rights to all Chinese. Although under his rule the government became less and less democratic and slowly corrupted.

In 1930 China was in the middle of a major civil war, between the Nationalist Party and the Communists.

In 1933 Jiang gathered up 700,000 nationalist solders and surrounded the communists until the communists were forced to flea. They fled over 6000 miles in a journey called the Long March.

As civil war raged in China Japan saw the weakening country and took advantage of it.
