"Maybe it will always be this way."
River's mind wandered as she stared at her speckled white ceiling. It was midnight and yet she still had not found the will within herself to exit the screen

It'd been almost two hours since she had stumbled again onto Wyatt's page. His page with his perfect pictures of his perfect self with his perfect friends and his perfect life. Hell, even his family was perfect. What with his two siblings, married parents and literal white picket fence. By simply scrolling through his feed it seemed as though he had no flaws to his name.

River stared at the photos a little longer, scrolling down his feed, hoping to find images to ease her mind and out of this phase. Instead, all she seemed to find was more reasons to love him.
"Maybe i'll always just be stuck."
"Maybe I really will have to settle."
As thoughts flowed through her head, River pondered how she had come to rest so much on Wyatt. It's not like he had cheated on her after dating for ten months or broken things off simply because she wasn't the prettiest girl in their class. That would have been simpler. Her problems now were so complex she couldn't seem to put them into coherent thoughts, let alone words.
"But you don't love him River, he's just a boy. He's just a boy in your class and that's all. There's nothing special about him... oh what the hell."
River's thoughts interrupted themselves. Try as she may, she could not convince herself that Wyatt was just another boy, he was not just another boy. Though she lay still in her bed, her mind twisted and turned with the thoughts he provided.

"No, he's not just a boy. He's a poison." And with that, she laid back down in the middle of her bed. That was, for a bit, until her door cracked open.

"Can't sleep again?" The girl who stood at the door was small, approximately 5 feet in height, and stood with a petite, slightly slumped nature. Her long blonde hair curled up right below her hip bones and her silhouette seemed oddly comforting for a dark figure standing in the doorway at midnight.

"Mykie, what are you doing up again? You know mom's gonna kill you if she hears you."
River's sister simply stood at the doorway, unmoving.
"I know, but I heard you again. I can't just leave you in here. You have to go to school tomorrow too and if he's constantly on your mind there is never any way you'll be able to function like a proper human being."

The room was dark, but River could still make out Mykie's frame. The white walls around her, though lightless, were still bright enough to shine whatever brightness reflected off of them back onto her. Her soft smile, even in the small, dull bedroom, seemed enough to calm River, even if for a small amount of time.

"You're scrolling again aren't you?" Mykie gave a quick giggle as she walked toward the bed, stumbling over piles of laundry and shoes sprinkled across the floor.
"I just got caught up again." River sighed, quickly realizing her inherent lack of willpower. Every night she told herself she wouldn't do it, she wouldn't get caught up in the thoughts.

But, every night it seemed to get harder to control the thoughts. Tonight of all nights, she simply could not leave the racing space her mind had set in.
"He's not worth your time. Hell, he's not worth your worry."
"I know but..."
"No buts River, if he wanted to be with you he would. You let him play you every which way."

Mykie's face looked slightly sad, but then again, it was dark and River could only slightly make out the look on her face.
"I want you to be happy River, but I can't keep helping you."
"I know, I don't know why I get so wrapped up in him. He's like a drug, every time I get a little taste of what it could be like, it's all I can think about."
