Living a healthy life is often one of the best and most important ways to keep your body and your mind running as long and as well as they possibly can. However, health is not just one thing as many people may think. Having good overall health takes many factors into consideration and each must be stable and balanced.

Your health is dynamic meaning always changing. One day you may feel great and then the next come down with a bad cold or the flu. Keeping up with all areas of your health can help combat the possibilities of bad diseases as well as mental disorders.

Upkeeping your overall health means being conscious of your physical, mental/emotional, and social wellbeing. If one of these areas is thrown out of whack then all of your personal health will be unbalanced. If one of these areas is off then you will not be at your absolute best. It is important to upkeep all areas to know that your body can always function as best it can.

Always be aware of the choices that you are making for your body. Whether that be the foods you eat or the activities you take part in. All of these things can factor into your overall health and wellness.

Maintaining Your Overall Health

Making the choice to live a healthy lifestyle is an incredibly important decision. However, being able to keep making those choices on a consistent basis is what is going to increase the quality and longevity or length of your life.

Creating certain habits, often known as lifestyle factors. Will be the main component in creating and up keeping a strong overall health. You must be able to use self control when making decisions about your health and make the choice that is best suited for you.

Some of the most common lifestyle factors that many doctors recommend to up keep include getting a healthy amount of sleep, eating a healthy and balanced diet, creating positive relationships, staying physically active, and avoiding behaviors that could in any way harm or damage your overall health. Activities that could damage your health are often called risk behaviors.

Often as a teen it can be easy to be lured into risk behaviors such as drugs, alcohol, or sexual activities due to peer pressure. Therefore, you must be able to stand up for yourself and speak out for what you think is right. Don't let others make your choices for you, be a person who stands up for themselves.

Chapter 3
The Health Triangle

The health triangle shows how all of the aspects of your overall health are interconnected. If one part of the triangle, or your health, is thrown off than everything becomes unbalanced. In order to maintain your personal health you must keep all aspects of your life healthy and thriving in order to make sure your can function well everyday.

The first aspect of the health triangle is keeping up your physical health. Working your body and making your muscles run is a great way to make sure that your body can run as well as long as it possibly can.

The second aspect of the health triangle is mental/emotional health. Keeping up your health is not just about keeping your body healthy but, also keeping your mind and emotions stable and in check. This part of the triangle deals with people's personal thoughts about themselves, how you meet your personal needs and how you up keep your emotions.

The third aspect of the health triangle is social health. This part of the triangle includes creating strong and healthy relationships, learning to cooperate with others and being able to find support and solace from others when needed.

Influencing Your Health

Many factors can have a strong influence over your health and some that you may not even have any control over. Biological, social and environmental factors all play a part in the outcome of your overall health. You must try to keep all areas of your life as stable as possible in order to maintain a strong overall health.

The biological factor that plays the most part in defining your health is heredity. Heredity is all the traits that were passed on to you biologically from your parents. This is the aspect of your health that you often have no control over and may have to take steps in order to prevent diseases or issues that your parents had.

Your physical, social and cultural environment will also often be a large aspect in developing your overall health. Living in a safe and clean environment will help your mind and body be able to last longer. Having a strong social environment with good peers will help you to be able to make better choices about your health and can have many positive benefits on your life.

One of the largest influences on your health is your personal viewpoint on it. Choosing to prioritize your own health is one of the best things you can do for yourself. While you may not be able to make others choices you can choose to have a positive attitude and choose good behaviors for yourself. Choosing to have a positive attitude means that it will be easier for you to stand up for what you believe in and make correct choices for yourself.
