2.L.5A.3 Construct explanations using observations and measurements of an animal as it grows and changes to describe the stages of development of the animal.

Is a frog really a frog when it is born?

A frog starts off by being in an egg.
Frogs are amphibians, which means they are not mammals. So, they will lay eggs instead of give live birth to an animal.

Frogs usually lay eggs up around the shores or banks in rivers, ponds, and lakes.

Once the eggs are laid, the eggs will turn into embryos. The embryos then become tadpoles, which cling to tall pieces of grass in the water.

At this point, the tadpole looks like a circle with a long tail. The tail continues to grow, and so do 2 back legs!

The tadpole has not developed a mouth yet, so the tadpole survives off of nutrients that the tail has absorbed!

At this point, the two front legs are appearing and the tail is beginning to shorten.
