Freshman Beware

is for Art
Taking art classes is a very enjoyable way to break up your day in Rochester High School. Although I haven’t taken any classes with Mr. Rex, from my interactions with him I can tell you he is pretty dope and will be a great art teacher. Art classes are something that will give you a creative break from the normal general education classes.

is for B Average
For the freshman year of high school, B average isn’t that exponentially important, but when you get to the point where you start driving a B average is important to you getting the “Good Student Discount” for insurance. This little discount could save you close to a band in costs of insurance. It’s a good idea to keep a B average throughout high school.

is for CACC

CACC is completely irrelevant for your freshman and sophomore years, but come junior year I highly recommend CACC. It helps figure out potential trade school interests such as, welding, auto tech and graphic arts. The best part of CACC is you’re only at RHS for half the day, and you leave after lunch for the program!

is for Driving

Obviously this a huge part of your high school career, and it gives you the freedom that you want to go wherever, basically whenever. Sophomore year is going to be the year for most to get their license, which means that you have to buckle down sophomore year to make absolutely positive that you are able to get your license. Have to be safe about driving and make sure to pass the behind the wheel and driver’s ed classes. Also for what it’s worth, Jenkins is a cool dude, be kind to him.

is for Empathy

You may not like some of the teacher that you have but show them empathy they have to deal with you and all of your easily excitable, freshman male/female friends. Which I can tell you is not fun for them in the slightest, so help to make their jobs a little easier and show respect and learn that even though their class may be boring to you, dealing with a bunch of jacked up kids is not a fun thing to to all the time.

is for Fail

The easiest way to address this issue...DON’T!! Simply do you work and “study” for tests and finals and you won’t be part of the small group of kids that fails. If you fail you’re going to have to do a lot more work than if you just suck it up and stick with passing your classes at RHS, because it’s really not that hard as long as you try at least a little bit.

is for GED

As of right now I don't have a GED and that's a great thing! I haven't dropped out and don't plan on it, as should you. Be a good student and work hard to get your diploma, so you don't have to drop out and settle for just a GED.

is for Help

Never be afraid to ask a teacher or student for help on an assignment. Everybody will do this, and it is a natural part of the high school experience, and will most definitely help you to achieve and become a stronger student overall, making it easier to get your GED in the end.

is for Immaturity

Basically every student you will encounter is going to be immature. This a fact of the teenage life and there is not stopping it so, ya know, if you can’t beat em, join em. I don’t mean to act like a total nincompoop, but it’s high school, so mess around, act stupid, have as much fun as you can within limits, of course.

is for Job

You don’t necessarily have to have a job when you are in high school, though it is a good idea, and will help you have some extra money to go out and have fun with your friends. Plus gas is expensive and if you’re parents aren’t paying for it for you, you’ll be paying for it and having money to be able to drive is definitely recommended.

is for Kickball

Be prepared for gym classes to consist of a lot of kickball, not the same thing every time, but different variations of almost the same game. It is a game that you’ll play a lot on your “fun days” in strength training.

is for Luck

Luck is an intricate part of passing your classes, learning is one thing, but then again that’s a lot of work to study and whatnot. Sometimes being lucky is better than being good, so If you’re a generally lucky individual, high school is going to be a breeze for you. Sometimes it's better to be lucky, than good.

is for "I Might Do It"

You are sitting in class after a test not wanting to do literally anything except watch what youtube videos aren’t blocked by Mr. Moore, and your teacher walks around handing out a front and back worksheet. I can guarantee that “I might do it.” will go through your head and some of the time doing it is the right choice, but one bad grade here and there isn’t going to fail you for the class.

is for Nick Bond

Mr. Bond, as you shall refer to him as, will be basically your best friend for your underclassman years in RHS. Anything that you need assistance or guidance with classes, schedule or anything like that you you cannot solve by yourself.

is for Obedience

This kind of goes hand in hand with respecting your teachers, but in addition to respecting them you should also listen and do what they say. When they say to stop watching youtube do it and humor them even if you slide back over a minute later, but for the initial interaction, show your utmost respect.

is for Physical Education

Another class to break up your day, as long as you choose the right class. There are different options, such as strength training which is lifting weights. As well as my personal favorite, elective with Mr. Piper, where you go to Knight’s to golf, or King Pin to bowl or just stay in the gym and play games and sports.
