David is starting middle school, and wants to make some friends.
He notices some kids in his class are playing basketball after school.

After a great day with his new friends, he gets invited to play in a few hours.

Asking his dad for permission to go play, his father offers him some advice: "Play hard, win at all costs. Your friends will see how talented you are."

His mother says to play fair and get all his teammates involved, and don't pay as much attention to the score. His friends will appreciate his play.

David tries his fathers advice first, scoring most of the points. His friends start to feel left out.

David now tries his mothers advice, passing and playing with all his friends. His teammates start scoring, but the game gets tied up.

David has the chance to score a game winning basket, but also sees his friend wide open. He realizes he doesn't have to chose between his mom or his dad's advice, he can do both.

David passes to his friend without the defense noticing, and his friend wins the game. His friends gather around David to celebrate the assist, and his friend for the basket. David decides to not follow what other people tell him, but to take the best parts of advice and make them a part of who he is.
