I was born on January 15, 1929. My name wasn't always Martin Luther King, Jr., my birth name was actually Michael Luther King Jr. For generations, my family has been pastors of a small church in Atlanta called Ebenezer Baptist Church. I was very fortunate to work with my father as a co-pastor when he served.

From an early age, I witnessed segregation first-hand because I attended many segregated public schools in Georgia. But, that did not held me back from receiving a great education. In fact, I graduated high school when I was fifteen years old.

Did I mention that I was elected president of a predominantly white senior class. and was awarded B.D. in 1951. Yeah... I did that.
After I finished my doctorate in Boston, I met the love of my life, Coretta Scott. We married a few years later and had 4 amazing children.

In 1954, I became a pastor in Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, in the great state of Alabama.
Everything was moving so quickly, it wasn't even a year later that I became a member of the executive committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Also known as NAACP.

In 1955, I was privileged to lead an amazing group. The first Negro nonviolent group. We led marches, boycotts, and any form of nonviolent protests for the end of segregation.

Even though there was success in our movement, it was not easy to achieve it. We faced many humiliations and at times were treated very harshly.
