Dedicated to my Environmental Science class of 2018.

What's the matter?
Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space.
Everything, even you, are made of matter!
Chemistry is the study of matter and how it changes.
That's what's the matter!

A Is for... Atom!!
Can you guess the names of the BIG THREE?
Protons-- Positive Charge
Neutrons-- No Charge
Electrons-- Negative Charge
These are your three SUBATOMIC PARTICLES. They live in the nucleus of a cell, except the electron, which lives OUTSIDE the nucleus.

Elements, compounds and molecules!
Elements are types of matter that cannot be broken down into simpler substances by normal chemical means
When two or more atoms bond together they create a molecule. If the molecule contains two or more different types of elements it is known as a compound.
ALL about matter

On Earth, matter typically exists in one of three states: solid, liquid, gas, or plasma.
Solids have distinct shapes and forms. The atoms are stuck to gather and DON'T move.
Liquids take the form of what they're contained in. The atoms are still attracted to each other, but still move around!
Gases fill their containers completely, but don't have a distinct shape or form. The atoms are separated and don't contact each other. They like their space!
Did you know that Matter has to follow rules, too?
It's called the Law of Conservation of Matter!!

The law states that elements and compounds can be changed from one physical or chemical form to another.
For example, a melting snowman. The snow changes form, but doesn't disappear!

That's everything for now! what's the matter? Still wanting to learn more? Stay tuned for our sequel!
