One Morning a little girl named Charlee woke up, excited for her first day of school. She let out a big YAWN, jumping out of bed! Not a worry in the world that her first day would be hard.

She headed out the door, singing "A..B..C, this year is going to be easy!"

She hip hopped along the path to her school, excited to begin her year as a big first grader! As Charlee continued on the path, she saw her best friends Cooper and Kit. A huge SMILE ran across her face as she ran to give them a big HUG!

She skipped down the path, singing "A..B..C, this year is going to be easy!"

The first bell rang and math class began! Charlee was ready to to begin going over the easy addition she had learned in kindergarten. However, Mrs. Honey, her teacher told the class they would be learning something new today... something called subtraction!

She doodled on her paper, singing "A..B..C, this year is going to be easy!"

Charlee started to work on her first subtraction problem, and she got a sick feeling in her tummy. She didn't know how to do this new math.

5 - 2 = ?

6 - 3 = ?

She had no idea what the answers were to these questions. Charlee became really sad.

She sat at her desk, singing "A..B..C, this year is not going to be easy."

The bell rang for recess to begin! Charlee was still sad about her hard math questions, but she smiled because now was her time to have FUN! She asked her friends if they wanted to play kickball, and everyone YELLED "YES" with JOY! They all loved to play kickball!

She ran out to recess, singing "A..B..C, this year is going to be fun!"

Caroline and Cooper were chosen to be the team captains, they began picking the other kids they wanted to be on their team. Charlee became super sad when she was the last one picked for a team. Tears began to run down her little cheeks.

She sat on the tree stump, singing "A..B..C, this year is not going to be fun."
