One day Ashley was walking on the beach one morning and sees a group of scientist walking as well. She really wants to know more about ocean acidification because that is what her class is learning about at school. She approaches them and asks if they know anything about ocean acidification and if they can tell her more about it.

Of course! we know tons about ocean acidification.

Luckily for her these scientists are very experienced with ocean acidification and know plenty of things about it. They tell her to ask any questions that she might be having about this topic. Ashley thanks them and begins her long list of questions.

What is ocean acidification anyways?

"Ocean acidification is the outgoing decrease in the PH of the Earths oceans, caused by the uptake of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere."

What is the process of ocean acidification ?

"Its simple really. The process is when carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels making the worlds oceans more acidic."

So how does the ocean become acidic ?

"The ocean plays an important role in keeping the carbon cycle in balance. As the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere rises, the ocean absorbs a lot of it. In the ocean carbon dioxide reacts to seawater to form carbonic acid. This causes the acidity of the water to increase."

As you can see this shows how the ocean becomes acidic.
