After the US Civil War (a fight 

between people who live in the same 

country), Black people were 

promised that they would receive 

the same treatment than White 

People.

Black people expected to be 

able to vote, and to have the 

same benefits that white people 

had.

Negroes were betrayed by 

authorities and that make them 

sad. Then white people thought 

that the separation from black 

people was natural.

The separation between blacks and whites 

was demonstrated in daily life:

1) They could not use the same restrooms

2) Black people had to give up their seats 

to white people on the buses

3) They couldn't go to the same 

schools.

4) Places, like restaurants or 

stores, were divided for the use 

of white and black people.

This was a group that liked to 

torment and torture Negroes 

because they wanted to keep them 

scared and with the idea that 

white men were superior.
