Who am I?

My name is Neon but some people call me Ne.

My atomic number is 10 and I weigh 20.18 amu. I am usually very bright!

I live in the Noble Gas family located all the way to the right of the Periodic Table. You can find me in Group 18 in Period 2 . I am located here because the rest of the elements in my group are gases like me! We are all inert gases.

My Parents

I was discovered by William Ramsay, a British physical chemist who also discovered the other Noble Gases. I was also discovered by his science partner, Morris Travers who worked with Ramsay to discover the other Noble Gases. I was born on 1898 in University College London.

My Friends

Since I am a Noble Gas, I am inert and I have a full share of valence electrons so therefore, it's unlikely that I bond with other atoms and different elements. I don't really have friends and I get sad sometimes. My other family members, Xenon and Krypton, can form compounds in extreme temperatures and certain conditions. I, Neon, only exist as a single element! What a loner I am! :(
