This story is dedicated to my parents for always taking us to the beach, as kids. and also to Mike Clarke for helping me teach kids how to write powerful personal narratives.

It was a scorching hot July day on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland. As I lay on my blanket I thought to myself, "It is so hot out here we could probably fry an egg!" I was enjoying our family vacation at the beach, but was thankful that we had set up our umbrella!

The sun was so bright it was making me squint. I could hear the ocean waves crashing against the shore and the seagulls cawing. I could smell the saltiness of the ocean water and I could feel the hot sand underneath me, as I lay reading on my blanket.

As the sun continued to blaze, I could not wait any longer to cool off. My skin felt like it was on fire! My mom and dad sat under the umbrella reading and relaxing. My sister was building sand castles.

No one else in my family seemed to be bothered by the hot sun, but I asked anyway, "Mom, Dad, Michelle do you guys want to take a swim with me?" Mom answered, maybe in a little while." And my sister replied, "Not right now." I said, "Ok, I am heading down to the ocean for a swim, I'll be back in a few minutes!"

I sprinted on the blazing hot sand, so that my feet would not burn. I weaved in and out of blankets, chairs, and bright colored umbrellas, as I ran down towards the water.

I was finally standing in front of the clear, blue water. I stood there for a minute, just watching the waves crash onto the shore and letting the cool water roll over my feet. I thought, "Wow! These waves are huge today!"
Then, without anymore hesitation I threw my whole self into the cool ocean water.
It felt so refreshing to be out of the sun. I excitedly began to jump and hop over the waves. I was having so much fun and hoping the day would never end. I was laughing and squealing and having the time of my life!
