The 3 stages of interphase are divided into;
G1-Cell growth
S-Replication of DNA
G2-Preparation for mitosis
- In the G1 phase, cells get bigger and synthesize new organelles and proteins.
- The S stands for synthesis. During the S phase, chromosomes are replicated as new DNA is synthesized.
- In the G2 phase, molecules and organelles are produced for cell division

Prophase - The first phase of mitosis is prophase. Prophase usually takes the longest time during mitosis. Prophase may take up half the the total time to finish mitosis. When prophase is happening genetic material inside the nucleus of the cell gets close together and the copied chromosomes become easier to see.

Metaphase - The second phase of mitosis is metaphase. Metaphase usually takes the shortest amount of time during mitosis. When metaphase is happening centromere of the copied chromosomes line up across the center of the cell.

Anaphase - The third phase of mitosis is anaphase. Anaphase starts to happen when sister chromatids suddenly separate and begin to move apart. When anaphase starts the sister chromatid are now their own individual chromosomes. When anaphase is happening the chromosomes separate and move along spindle fibers to opposite ends of the cell.
