Subject
The subject of this speech is the rights of African Americans, the justice that they want, and how they will achieve their goals.
". . . [The] greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation" (1).
Occasion
The occasion of this text is that Dr. King was asked to give a speech at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963.
"So we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition" (4).
Audience
The audience of the speech was anyone who was at the March and anyone who was standing up for the rights and justice of African Americans.
". . . [The] devotees of Civil Rights, . . ." (8).
Purpose
The purpose of the speech was to try to persuade more people to stand up for what is right and do more about bringing justice to those who deserve it.
"There will neither be rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights" (6).
Speaker
The speaker is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; an African American rights activist.

This adds to the persuasiveness of the text because he is educated and has given many speeches like this one before.
