The Song of the Night

It was like every other Sunday night before school for Jordan and her family. They were all fast asleep and had everything ready for the following day.

Then, suddenly, Jordan was startled awake by the sound of a song. It was a beautiful song, something she had never heard before and it sounded like it was coming from a piano, but it was so loud. It almost sounded like it was coming from inside her head.

Jordan glanced at her alarm clock on her nightstand. She still had over an hour until she would need to get ready for school. She decided that she must be dreaming and climbed back into her bed.
The next morning Jordan woke up and headed into the kitchen for breakfast. At the table she noticed that her brother, Jay, wasn't eating and was ready for school already. Jay, although a year older than her, looked very similar to Jordan. They had the same bright, blue eyes and brown hair, but despite their similar appearances, they had very different personalities. Jordan was very independent and kept to herself most of the time, while Jay, although he was very clever, could be quite foolish at times and he always had something to say. This why Jordan found it odd that Jay sat at the table, completely silent.

"Come sit down and eat something, Jordan," Jordan's mom, Caitlyn, said. "Your going to be late to the bus if you don't pick up the pace a little bit." Jordan listened and sat down to eat. As she ate, she thought of the song she heard last night. She clearly remembered the tune, which was odd because she didn't usually remember her dreams, but no one else mentioned hearing a song, so she assumed it was all in her head.

After Jordan was done getting ready for school, she and Jay walked to the bus stop.

Once the bus arrived, they got on and headed to school. Jay found a seat with his friends and Jordan sat in the back. On the ride there, Jordan couldn't stop thinking about the song. She tried to ignore her thoughts with music, but it didn't work.

Jordan was still thinking about the song when she got out from school, but she didn't say anything because she didn't want anyone to think she was crazy.

As soon as Jordan got home, she went to her room. She did some research on her laptop about dreams and hearing songs in your sleep. She found that many people hear songs in their sleep, but Jordan was unsure. She remembered the song vividly and it didn't seem like a dream, but she carried on with her day anyways.

"Goodnight Jordan. I have to leave early for work tomorrow, so I won't be here when you wake up," Caitlyn told her before she went to bed. "Ok, goodnight," Jordan replied. Then Jordan got into bed and fell asleep.

Jordan was deep asleep, until, suddenly, the music started to play again. Jordan jumped out of bed. She covered her ears, but it was no use, the music was too loud. Jordan went over to the door and looked through the crack, but saw nothing. She contemplated going outside, but what would she even do if someone was there? She decided to lay back in bed and try to fall asleep, but she couldn't go back to sleep. The music was still playing so loud.

Eventually the music stopped and Jordan looked over at her clock. Once again, she had a little over an hour until she had to wake up and get ready for school. Jordan couldn't go back to sleep, so ended up just laying in her bed until her alarm went off.
