One thing that made Timbuktu very rich was salt and gold. Now of course we understand why the gold but what does salt have to do with richness right?








Well actually salt was very important back then. It once was worth the same as gold. That is because salt made food taste better and also made it last longer. Not only that, but salt was very hard to find in other parts of the world
