Rain Forest Deforestation
Introduction
Rainforests are one of the most diverse biomes. They are filled with unbelievable animals and plants. But, these intricate areas of land are suffering due to deforestation. Deforestation is the removal of a forest which is then turned into something humans can use. Deforestation is the cause of an increase
in global warming, medical losses, and many species may go extinct. The uncontrolled actions of agricultural, logging, and development companies are causing rainforests to degrade at a rate of “150 acres per minute” (Raintree Nutrition 1). According to Rain Forests Matter, global warming will occur along with medicine losses, and extinct species.
Global Warming
Global warming will increase because many development organizations intentionally burn down forests in a controlled manner in order to make room for building quicker. This releases, “a large emission of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere,” (Bill Freedman) which warms the earth.
Then, since the earth is getting hotter, the trees catch on fire by accident, which leads to more carbon dioxide, and more global warming. The trees are supposed to turn the carbon dioxide into oxygen, but if there are a lot of trees burning at once, the other trees can’t process it in time.
Medicinal Loses
Deforestation can also lead to medicine losses. This happens because when organizations destroy the trees and plants, the medicine that the plants made is destroyed and thrown away. This is a major disadvantage because if the medicine is limited more, then so will our ability to help treat patients. Scientists
have predicted that deforestation will have a major impact on the medical industry.
